If you are considering a camping holiday around the Grand Pacific Drive region of New South Wales, then the Windang Beach Tourist Park is somewhere you should seriously consider.

Situated about 100 km south of Sydney, and just over a 5-minute drive from Shellharbour, this fabulous lake and oceanfront caravan park is perfect for those who love the water.

Not only does it offer excellent fishing at both the beach and Lake Illawarra, but a stay here also provides plenty of opportunities for swimming, surfing or paddling.

For self-caterers, this family-friendly caravan park, is also a 5-minute drive to Woolworths and Aldi, while the cafes, restaurants, bars and shops of the city centres in neighbouring Shellharbour and Wollongong are fairly close by too.

The Windang Beach Tourist Park prides itself on being an affordable campsite, caravan park and self-contained cabin retreat for those who love the water.

Situated close to both Shellharbour and Wollongong, it offers a very good range of powered sites, as well as terrific shared facilities like a camp kitchen, playground, BBQs and RV dump point.

Contained within a secure gated area, this excellent campground does not have a swimming pool, but it does have coin-operated laundry facilities and male and female bathroom facilities that accommodate toilets, showers and basins.

There is Wi-Fi here, but the Optus and Telstra coverage is pretty good throughout the area.

The Windang Beach Tourist Park is not a pet-friendly site.

However, if you are travelling without a dog it does offer a fantastic range of family-friendly accommodation options.

This includes a selection of deluxe, family and ensuite cabins that can sleep up to 6 people, and features a kitchen, dining and living area. As well as air-conditioning, an undercover verandah, an ensuite bathroom and a TV.

In addition, it also incorporates ensuite caravan sites, as well as drive-through powered sites and several powered camping sites too.

Prices vary depending on when you stay at the campground. But as of January 2022, the costs were as follows:

– Powered Site $39 per night for 2 people

– Powered Drive Through Site $44 per night for 2 people

– Ensuite Powered Site $65 per night for 2 people or $315 per week

How to get to Windang Beach Tourist Park

The Windang Beach Tourist Park is located at 11 Fern Street in Windang, New South Wales.

To get there from the M1 you will need to take the Masters Road exit towards Port Kembla.

Once on Masters Road, you will then need to turn right onto the Springhill Road/B65.

Keep driving along this road for 2.1 km and then turn left onto the Five Islands Road which you will need to continue along for another 9.3 km.

At this point, you will bear slight left onto Windang Road.

Once on this road follow it until the end, then make a left turn on Fern Street, until you arrive at the Windang Beach Tourist Park.

The best months to head to New South Wales, for a visit to Windang, are between January and February when the sun shines and the average temperature sits at 26°C. However at this time, it is peak season, so there will be more people visiting then.

During February and March, they do experience a bit of rainfall in Windang, although as most of the school children have returned to school, it is a bit quieter.

The coldest months of the year are July and August when temperatures can drop to single figures at night.

Kiama Blowhole

Just a 20-minute drive away from Windang resides the fabulous beachside community of Kiama.

As well as a comely beach, the key attraction here is the Kiama Blowhole, which is one of the largest natural water spouts in the world.

The sight of the incredible blowhole exploding through the rocks which lie below the Kiama Lighthouse is mesmerising. You will be so taken by it that before you know it half an hour or an hour would have passed!

Depending on the conditions, its spray can eject up to 25 metres in the air, so if you are standing near it, don’t be surprised if you get a little wet.

About 2 km south of this attraction you’ll find the Little Blowhole, which is also worth a visit.

If you do go to Kiama, be sure to take a dip in the stunning Kiama Rock Pool.

Located just a couple of hundred metres from the blowhole, this picturesque tidal ocean-fed pool is an excellent spot for a swim, especially during the heat of the day.

It is directly opposite the marina too, which is another interesting place to visit once you have finished.

The Cathedral Rocks are situated just to the north of Kiama.

A very distinctive set of rock formations, they can also be viewed as part of the Kiama Coastal Walk, which showcases some exceptional scenery.

Created from years of erosion, the volcanic rocks are very impressive, especially at sunrise, so if you can it is worth timing your visit for then.
