Situated on the Limestone Coast, the charming South Australian town and fishing port of Robe, boasts sensational ocean views, historic buildings, gorgeous bushland and shimmering lakes. All of which combine to make it a popular coastal getaway spot from Melbourne and Adelaide.
Lying within Guichen Bay’s southern shoreline, just off the Princes Highway, many people from both cities come for a relaxing weekend in Robe.
For those who are planning to visit the town in the not too distant future, we highly recommend it. So here are 10 things to do, to make the most of your time there.

1. Cape Dombey Obelisk
A true icon in Robe, this red and white striped Cape Dombey Obelisk has been warning oncoming ships of the town’s treacherous reefs since 1855.
Originally white in colour, this 12 metre high, pyramid-like structure eventually had red bands painted on it after numerous complaints that it was too hard to see.
Sitting on a dramatic, jagged limestone ledge that has been so eroded over time by wild winds and oceans waves, the structure is a very Instaworthy photo.
It is actually expected to crumble into the ocean one day and locals are torn over what to do about it. With some of them forming a ‘Save the Obelisk’ Society.
At present two lovely walking trails skirt around the structure, which showcase stunning views of the angry ocean and the ancient limestone ridges they repeatedly crash into. So we suggest you do that whilst you can.
